Today I did the red panda, corn snake, and yellow tang. I focused solely on the animals rather than any backgrounds. The way this summer is going, I’m making really good progress!

6/23/23 Update
I’ve done two new animals on the list. The first I did was the sockeye salmon, but I don’t have a picture to show you because I forgot to save the sketch and only have the fully rendered tiff. These bright red fishes look like they got bonked on the head like a cartoon character.Continue reading “6/23/23 Update”
May 31 Update
May 25:Today I decided to draw a bluebird on the same page as the blue crab. I decided on the bluebird as I have a lot of fond memories of my Grandmother’s bluebird houses, and while the loud and sassy bluejay has more blue and is often confused for the bluebird, I think the quieterContinue reading “May 31 Update”
5/25/2023 update
I just realized I forgot to post about the last few animals I have created. I have done the orange fox, the gray mourning dove, and the white gyrfalcon! I have also decided to on each page hide the word for the color each animal represents, for example hide “gray” in both the mourning doveContinue reading “5/25/2023 update”
5/1/2023 update
Lots of progress today!
April 5 update
The eastern newt was fairly easy to draw. I chose them for the orange skinned animal because they are cute. I positioned him crawling under the poem, and I knew immediately this was the position I’d be drawing him in. I don’t have much to say about this update, just kinda got in the zoneContinue reading “April 5 update”
A visit to the animals that inspired me
February 3 update
I’ve started drawing those animals from the last blog update, starting with the coconut octopus. It was fairly easy to decide the positioning of the animal, because I roughed out the first pose, and loved it immediately. It had kind of a groggy look to it which I think makes it cuter. This animal willContinue reading “February 3 update”
January 20, 2023 update
This week I decided to take a step back and decide all the different animals I’m going to add to the book under the “skin” category. There are going to be four categories of animal for each color: hair, feathers, scales, and skin. Skin is the catch all for things that don’t fall into theContinue reading “January 20, 2023 update”
December 20 update – Oops
The Whitehead’s Broad-bill is the bird I chose for the green bird because of it’s highlighter green coloration, and goofy expression. It’s beak is covered in feathers and goes back almost to the eye, making this bird look very strange indeed. This bird was very fun to draw, which is good because I will haveContinue reading “December 20 update – Oops”
